Made a good 460kms today with a late start from Sapphire. Camping 25kms from Charters Towers in a gravel pit about 200 meters off the road.
Campfire and watched the road trains go by until bed. Truck driver must love the inventions of LED lights

We had some dew in the middle of Oz on one morning but it evaporated as the sun rose.
This morning we got a heavy dew on everything. Can't get the crew moving this morning. I am ready to move as normal. 😁😁😁
Already 20°c outside and the dew has nearly gone. Julie making their lunch for the road.

Drove through Charters Towers thinking there would be a fuel stop on the other side of town.
Apparently not and had to drive back to the Puma on the main drag into town.
The other fuel stops were too tight for car and van. We did a full lap of the town and the fuelled up.
Only one person on for fuel and food and she had no idea of who was next to serve. Two lines had formed, one at each register but she was only working one. A bit of a shambles.
It did not look like the toilets had been cleaned since the previous day. Fairly ordinary for such a large site. 👎👎👎
Welcome to Chartets Towers. The drive through town was interesting. A fairly major centre full of old buildings.

Stopped for fuel top up. Only one fuel place on the way in and the second was 7 cpl cheaper but too tight for caravan. It was a mobile fuel container sticking out of a wall in small pull off area adjacent the service station. Like the old servos pull in and pull out and a bit wider than the footpath.
Kids had a snack. The chips were not cooked fully according to Aidyn, but the icecreams were good. 🍦🍧🍨

After missing a cool looking free camp by a river with cleared and level grass while being overtaken, continued on looking, but it appears that there are very few free camping spots along our current route.
It seems that Cairns is really busy still. Should have tried booking last night or earlier. Thought the school holiday rush would be gone by now. Must be this busy all the time this time of year.
Can't get into a caravan park till Sunday, so plan B, lets find a caravan park for tonight if no free camps. This one sounds good. The last site, but it's on a bit of a slope. Nothing ventured etc etc. All good.
What a change in weather and vegetation from last nights gravel pit. The kids are excited with the rain forest look. (Not Really a rain forrest). We will see that tomorrow.
Really nice people running this caravan park. Took me for a ride in his golf cart to make sure I would be able to get the van in and level enough before booking in.
